Hi greedy kite - full clue is "An uncommissioned soldier is held outside in the province..." 7 letters. Orinoco must be an answer to one of the clues but can't make it fit.

Hi kilowatt. Have tried your suggestion for 2.
Anagram of loss or lose(another word for gain) with I (Italy) or
S or E (spain) doesn't work for me !!
Any more clues please ?

You are almost there. Loss, + I + E gives Lossie. A scottish river (Lossiemouth).

Thank you Kilowatt. I must seem very dim. I did see Lossie but it was not listed in my book of river names.

River Lossie is in the North East of Scotland. It is supposed to be a good salmon river.
