As usual, it's just the last three or four.....

i) Stand being overdrawn briefly at end of holiday (6) ???p?d
ii) Deliberately captures wild animal (5) ??t?l
iii) Cannonballs regularly fired, as the record shows (5) a?n?l (Presumably ANNAL (i.e. record), but can't see the cannonball connection)
iv) Gnome shortened full length garment (4) ?a?i
(presumably MAXI, but what is the gnome reference?)
and finally.... Hard, for the most part, to collect water in this (8) ?t?a?n?r This must surely be STRAINER, but seems too obvious....?

All help gratefully accepted, as always!
Many thanks.
Ian.

Good Morning Ian.

I think the answers to i) & ii) are TRIPOD (trip-od) and RATEL (delibeRATELy) respectively.

I agree with you ... "Gnome shortened full length garment (4)" is MAXI (maxim and gnome can both mean a short saying).

Thanks to JimC and Brian!
(Why is it always the short ones that seem to elude me.....?)
Now just have to see why STRAINER should be the correct answer to my final missing entry.
What a splendid forum this is! I've only just discovered it, but hope to be able to contribute regularly (and perhaps not just with pleas for help!)
Thanks to you all.
Ian.
