Jerry,

Good morning! Lovely puzzle! I have had a look around and DATE is all I can offer, and a poor offering at that.

Good luck

Morning to you Royston,
I have the bottom half of this done, but am really
struggling with the top. I am not sure about
date, bur will have another look later in the day.
All the best my friend.
Jerry.
p.s. Do you get annoyed with people who don't
acknowledge or send a note of thanks.

Jerry,

Yes I do often. As you know it sometimes takes several books/tools (and the commensurate time also!)to solve a problem so it is nice when people appreciate it!

Kindest regards

Royston

Hi Don & Mollie,
Thank you both for the trouble,BALL would be
more like roly-poly. What is 1d?
Kind regards
Jerry

Thank you Don,
I think 1d is as amusing as 28a. I have only been
doing the Mephisto since March, and I think it is
a source of v amusing answers! I now have to
finish the top right corner.
Regards,
Jerry
