Portmanteau

Port - left on ship

Man - can't see why - maybe I'm missing something or is there any preamble to explain unclued parts?

T - time

Eau - If you where in the Cognac region of France - French for water

Portmanteau - a large travelling-bag

24d is SIT UPON. Anagram of spinout. Sit upon and can both mean to cancel.

Good answer Orson and spot-on. It's not really hyphenated. sit-upon (the hyphenated version) is given as THE BUTTOCKS in Chambers. Pardon! lol
