Have an answer for everything (not necessarily correct!) but am really struggling with this one.
Precedes gritty then not one.
Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?

could be NITTY NORA (the nit nurse). nitty comes before gritty and nor a = not one.

Good answer but a clue further on is:
This nitty nora is only young.
I have school nurse for this one. Would they have an answer in another question?

The second one could be "nurse maid". The maid bit squaring with young in the clue. Either way, the school nurse wasn't necessarily the same person as the nit nurse. But......

Many thanks Terry, I'll go with that. At least I have some sort of answer for everything, better than a blank space!!!
