I finished this the other day, but the wordplay of two of the clues escapes me (haven't had this problem in a while).
17a: One of the pitchblendes, mostly uniform in name (8)
I assume that mostly uniform is EVE(N), but don't see the name (if you called someone anything like that over here you'd probably get your face bashed in).
24d: Like some caterpillars, dead, if once trapped (6)
Just drawing a blank, though I know the answer is right.
Bracing for embarrassment...

24d an is an old form of if - late = dead ...

Thanks so much, bunty. Wouldn't have gotten "an" (even though I have lanate). Do indeed feel silly about the other one; saw even instead of level and was stuck there.
