Stuck solid on 23A and 5D. Anyone got them?

Not without the clues.

5D is Wind watch gaining second or two in game
(5,4) Iv'e got s-a-e -y-s
23A American press rejecting king but accepting Washington. Iv'e got i-g-n

23, Iowan.

5 Down is SNAKE EYES

Wind is SNAKE, watch is EYE and second is S gives the answer. Snake eyes is a pair of ones when two dice are thrown – in other words, “two in a game”

23 Across is IOWAN

Press is IRON, rejecting king (R) gives ION, accepting Washington (WA) gives the answer
