Thanks Bunty. Got it. Just realised that I missed the "almost" out of the clue, thus confusing myself (ie but where has the I gone?)

Sorry, that should have been thanks to santaslittlehelper. Brain out of gear today. My excuse is I have a stinking cold coming on.

Hello all,

last one

29a Virtuous type has a drop hidden away (7)

I have _T_S_E_

I'm reasonably sure it's "stashed" but I can't parse it.

I agree with stashed

Virtuous type = saint(st)
a
drop - shed

Finished but I'm perplexed by my last clue, 20D Certainly not confirmed as most imperial (7) N-B-E-T
I assume it's noblest (= most imperial) but can't see why.

And is there a name for the sort of clue 11A is? The definition also gives you bits of the final word:
That which controls temperature by a few switches about right. (9)
That which controls temperature = definition but also
THAT + T + SOME (backwards) around R

Could it be No - certainly not and blest as in "confirmed" in a religious sense?

I wondered about that but it's a long time since I was confirmed and I can't remember what the bish did - maybe he blessed us!
