Good afternoon, Claudie.
If your second-last letter is "i", you've got something wrong - it's "l" - whole answer is synonym for "almost".
Hoping this helps!

Okay, Claudie.
If you haven't got "cut ribbon" yet, it's a cut of meat/expensive steak, as well as an old-fashioned word for a ribbon.

Good afternoon, Aquarius.
If you get into hot water, you get into a "...a.e"; also if one shaves, one does this to one's face.
Fancy, like Routemaster - the bus is equipped with two ....s, so it is ....ed.
Staple, as you worked out, is an anagram of petals - it's also a Scottish version of stopple, which is a pipe stem.
Hoping this helps!

Hello Al Issner
Thank you: you could probably hear my sigh of relief across Scotland!
Time for a wee celebratory brandy now, I think!
