Why 'Backward and Forward' as the crossword title?

Hi Terry , it is not a puzzle I do - but maybe if I post a link then someone may be able to answer your query.

I think the title of the puzzle comes from the name of the character responsible for the quotation. Split his name into 2 words of 3 and 4 letters, and you have backward and forward. Forward as in rugby position.
