The thing is -- the clue says just the opposite to dog whistling and dhole IS a whistling dog.

I disagree: the opposite is a whistling dog (as already pointed out : there is a difference!), whereas dogs do not normally whistle but bark, and then the opposite could be Miaow!Follow now?

polly - no 7 if you still need it - it's a breed, the chain anagram is in the middle, monicker is X ,sapper isn't an engineer, but an adjective here, this mean is "me"- i.e. the setter. If this sounds like rubbish, just look for a breed with chain anagram in the middle!
I still need 8 too.
Dhole it is the for that other one!

Thanks xwordfan- I have an answer now - whether its the right one or not I have no idea!!! Its all very confusing!! I still haven't got 8 but I would appreciate any extra clues for : -
