You've to be careful how you express yourself sometimes. Re-reading my post of yesterday, I see I gave the impression I'd never heard of the economist, Keynes. By Milton Keynes, I meant that I took that to be the 'area' in the clue. I'm occasionally daft but not always. Anyway, to today's puzzle...

Show love? Could be lost cause as it hasn't succeeded = osculate. An anagram but I can't see how the 2nd S is discarded from Lost Cause.

Bird's big victim = osprey. Am I right in thinking that OS is 'outsize' (big)?

Many thanks.

Hi PS.

I think the clue probably should have been:
Show love? Could be a lost cause as it hasn't succeeded. ('a lost cause' without 'as').

'OS' = outsize.

1. anagram of lost cause without an S. it's an anagram for "show love - osculate" because it hasn't got "S" for succeeded.

2. yes

On further thought, maybe the clue is ok.

Take 's' for succeeded' out of 'lost cause' and then form the anagram.

It's sometimes hard to give answers without being patronising but I doubt that everyone reading that thread would know Maynard Keynes.
So I think it is best to try and explain the whole of the wordplay - or just give the answer.
ps. Thank you to Noel for explaing "shut", that one really bugged me.

(for anyone interested it was here)
