Answer - Gentle.

Yes, it is in fact quite simple. One of the meanings of "gentle" is "trained falcon" (see Chambers)

Thanks Chrise. Only have two versions of Collins no chambers.
Love Sat Herald and seeing answer, using my cheat x-word solver saw gentle as designating "birds".

Did try various dictionaries,synonims, to no avail. Only clue missing.
