14d and 9d were very cleverly clued I thought.

I have an answer that mostly works, but I don't see how the last 7 letters are "tendency" - what do you think?

I am also not sure of my answer for 5d.
Tendency does not seem to fit the ending (after the "soldiers") but the word does mean frequent.
