Hi leapy
This one wasn't fun, and I've several unparsed. Fifteensquared blog hasn't appeared yet, either
I went for LITERATE for that one. LIE is often "story", but I don't see the rest.

It looks like the three times are T ERA T inside LIE for story as you said, with the whole thing meaning read as in well-read.

Two I'm not even sure I've got right are:
12ac in Cuba a servant nearly sent back starchy food - have CASSAVA
and 27ac Eg Tom Cruise's no use performing with a large female - I've gone with FILM ACTOR, mainly because it fits (I was sure for ages that it was a subtractive anagram of "EGTOMCRUISES" with USE removed!)
