Thanks, Syzygy! Finished, I think. Why is there no clue for 12d (or for the 2-letter word across beginning left of 25 for that matter)? Couldn't he be bothered?
Don't quite get the word play in 16 & 20a; 7 & 23d, but assume they're all right.

16a- The golf star is Ernie Els.
20a- us CIO in L US, but iffy definition.
7d- Famous American stationer, homophone.
23d- Long Island University is in Brooklyn. I had to google the actress.

The two letters at 25 are part of the 11-letter unclued across entry. The clue for 12d is indeed missing.
