apologies..........didn't notice previous answer!

Can anyone please explain the reasoning behind 1ac & 1d?

1ac) 'Flower - stroke a little one, say'
I've got Orchid, and can see the i for one, but don't understand the stroke part

1d) 'Charity award that's accepted by footballers'
I've got Oxfam, for charity, and can see FA for footballers, but don't understand the award part

Any help gratefully received!

The "say" part of the clue indicates that the answer will sound like...so oar/or sounds like
stroke and kid/chid for little one.

I just found that by = x in my Chambers Crossword Dictionary...so that should be it!

As in multiplication...
