I've ALMOST completed the Prize Crossword, even getting the "French Directions" in the right places,However the "Y" clue mystifies me- is it a double in the right hand corner? I've got YALU and YEAS- but it doesn't make sense! HELP!!

Yes bottom right
YEAS - across
Yalu - down

I've finished it, with some help from Google (I'm not good on Chinese rivers!), and had no idea what the pre-amble was referring to - but have just spotted it in the completed crossword. John Graham is just so clever!

Thanks Tony, I think i've got it- the across "Y" should be YUAN which is the name of a Chinese Bank as well as a river!

No it shouldn't. You were given the correct answers at post number 2.

Yalu, a river in China, is Ulay backwards (the former name of "Oil of Olay").
