I have completed this crossword but one of the clues (16ac) was:- "Darkroom
sirens going off round noon, a deceptive
mechanism". (three words, 15 letters in all)
The answer is compiled from an anagram
of "darkroom sirens" + "m", but how does
"m" equate to "noon" (normally "n")
An error by the compiler?

Thanks, AndyC, but I still think he meant to
use "n" and it didn't quite work out. I've
never seen "m" used for mid-day - there'll be
initial letters being used for every word
before long! I've noticed a massive increase
in this in certain crosswords in the last
few years, with some compilers using the
initial letters of words willy-nilly.
