Yes - I had a close look. Unlike some, they are made from trenches backfilled with chalk chippings, renewed quite often.
On the other hand, I had a close view of the Long Man of Wilmington once (we came down from the top, thus didn't see the "No Access" signs) - this was made of concrete breeze blocks, painted white!
