After Googling, it would seem to be HEELTAPS. Squre Headlong apears in a book by Thomas Love Peacock called Headlong Hall, and doesn't seem to like them.

However from the quick look at the book that I had, I have no idea what he is referring too with "Off with your heeltaps" and " Push about the bottle: Mr Escot, it stands with you. No heeltaps. As to skylight, liberty-hall."

I'd never heard of heeltaps, the little bit of drink left in the bottom of the glass. I'll try and remember next time I'm in my local.

Which I've just discovered, isn't recognised in Chambers as a definition - it might have been a family word.
