23a Malaysian climber lacking right clubs for example G-C-O. seems to be gecko,but I can see no rationale to it can any one help please or am I completely wrong?

Looks like a spelling mistake vince

If it was 'Backing' instead of 'Lacking' then it would work. Thus

right OK + clubs C + for example EG

ok c eg / backing = ge c ko

It would even work without the word 'lacking' at all if it was a down clue, and climber had a double spin in its meaning because the whole clue could be climbing up, however, I see it's an across clue so forget that bit
