Have just finished this but couldn't
fully parse these two. Any explanation
would be appreciated.
6 Down - "Fail to use middle of report"
(I have "waste" as the answer).
49 Across - "So monarch not in immediate
danger? That's not yet confirmed*
(I have "unchecked" as the answer).

49 across refers to chess - the king is not yet "in check"

report homophone indicator, waist (middle) waste (fail to use)
