Stuck on 10across.Force's peculiar,shifting right to left.PR?PE?. I think its PROPEL,(force),but don't get the wordplay. Also I think it may be PROPER but again dont see why. Advice appresiated

proper is right/correct switch the r to l propel.

proper is a synonym of peculiar according to Collins Thesaurus. r becomes l.
