Beaten by one today, both in solution and explanation:

"He left fuel over at end of lane - it's purplish" = heliotrope. There's petrol and oil in there and I can't see where the 'end of lane' kicks in.

= 'he' + 'lio'(oil) + 'trop'(port=left) + 'e'(last letter of 'lane').
