Easy peasy!

Must be a duff grid because the down clues leave me with...S?A?R?E? and SALARIED, as you can see, doesn\'t fit but is obviously the correct answer!

Need to look into it!

MESCAL - anagram of CAMELS. Mescal is a cactus which if chewed, when dried, produces halucinations - it contains the compound used in the drug mescaline. This gives you the L for your other clue.
