Thanks I had pencilled in posada but didn't know the Spanish. The other one I asked about is cocatrice as trice is a moment.

Yes - cicatrice it is. I googled cocatrice and it's something quite extraordinary - a serpent hatched from a cock's egg and having the power to kill by its glance. Be very afraid!

The first three letters of cicatrice stand for commander in chief (commander being the first word of the clue).

Took me ages to work that one out!
