15a "Like worker in dining room who lets table out"(5,3,4) Anagram of "who lets table out" can be "below the salt" or below the last" - can anyone tell me what this means - or am I barking up the totally wrong tree !

ps what I meant to say was "who lets table"- out being the "flag" word

It IS "below the salt" (= of lower class at table): didn't know it myself, but it's in Chambers (under SALT)!

Hi Almo,

It is below the salt. This is a term that i had not heard of. On research it seem that in medieval times the salt was placed in the centre of the long table and the king and family etc sat above the salt and the servants below.
