I'm unsure of 2:
26A - Turnover; about £5, I hear (4)
I've got ?G?E
4A - Tight shirt (old top for me) (5)
I've got S?O?T

I am really beginning to hate doing this crossword !!
Any ideas please

Hello Dunce,
I can't help you - I'm stuck on the same two.
I just wanted to say that I'm also getting a bit pissed off with this crossword which seems to pride itself on being as obscure as possible.

4a. Could it be STOAT. Stoa = ancient (greek) sort of roof. T = shirt (or tight shirt). Can't really explain it though.

26a. Could start OG. turn =go, turnover = og.

Come on guys, this is driving me nuts.

Hi Trevor,
Thanks for trying.
Ogre did occur to me but how you square it with "£5 I heard" defeats me.

Think I'll watch the darts.

trevor,
LE could be an abbreviation for Egyptian Pound. And £5 in Eygpt is One Pound here (I here). The rate of exchange is wrong but what the hell.

I can see the other one now - SHORT (tight/short of money) shirt (old top = O for me=i)change i to o.
ogle/ogre one is getting on my nerves, you may be right with the Egyptian thing.

ta mostyn.
I thought about L for pound.
Does 5 = E because it is the 5th letter of the alphabet(if so the setter should be ashamed)?

I did quite like the shirt/short one tho
