if you look at it another way, silly person has A

ALOOF
point to make on fly

someone whos a little fly can be aloof, just pushing things around in my head,

Twit = silly person
e = point of compass
Twite = a bird

So we have a nice choice there, don't we, until we get the crossers!

and the crossword answer was twite.

That's what I thought mamya and why I posted but I could be very wrong. Titus asked a similar question which sounded very familiar a few days ago.

As I wrote the clue was from a cryptic crossword in a local crossword.
The answer was a word I hadn't come across before thanks Rossim. I kept thinking of (silly) goose but it didn't seem right.

Not sure what flight of fancy quiz is and as for the other clue it was not in my crossword but if it helps heather is often "ling" in cryptic crosswords.
