Can anyone explain this one?
Comic Dee’s gag – story of Shakespeare’s birthday, perhaps (2, 7, 3) ANS St George's Day

I see the connection between Shakespeare's uncertain birthday, 23 April, and St George's Day, and I found out there is a comedian (comic) called Jack Dee, but what does "gag" and "story" mean? I really don't see how the first part of the clue explains St George's Day...
