a ZAMINDAR or ZEMINDAR was a tax-collector. Unfortunately Chambers has lots of closely-related words, and I can't decide which one is correct

You are very welcome. I've a bit of a cold, so taking it easy, and good questions on the site can distract me from this farce of a Test Match (honestly, play, 4 fast bowlers, put the oppostion in, then set defensive fields!!!)
