Thanks Phillip. I had preset ages ago, but struggled matching it with the across clue. I dont see where the journalists come in, though.

Toffer, Phillip, Many thanks. The quicksolve now gives me an answer that fits, and I have recovered the power of pronouns!

Quick Solve has come to my aid for the SW corner as well. Just leaves 24a

First statement from witness can't stand: case dismissed (4)

I've got o?t? - oath fits but can't parse the clue

Loath (can't stand), then drop the 'l'.

looks like loath (can't stand) without the L (case dismissed) but i don't see why L = case.
