Has anyone got anywhere at all with today's (5/10/09) 'codeword' in the Telegraph? For probably the first time ever, we're utterly stumped.

8 letter word/phrase, ..LS...., fifth letters the same, last probably 'e'.

Is this where letters are represented by numbers,
if I understand correctly the letters L and S can't be used again in this answer?

That's right, no more Ls or Ss.

sorry oilseeds as to be wrong as the s in repeated, cannot think of anything else that would fit if, back to racking my brain, maybe my mother has cracked it as she does this codeword every day

have you got any other words withletters we could solve to start you off or do they only contain one given letter and make the task almost impossible.

Hi Stephen
Puzzling over this as I do not understand it.
Is it the case that the same letter cannot be used twice?
If so then how can 5th and 6th letters be the same?
Your post 1/8 refers.
