program looks better than humdrum - gram is a pulse (gram flour is used to make poppadoms)

18a is snapdragon. Snap = and me. drag on = playing dame. Snapdragon was an old parlour game traditionally played on Christmas Eve from the 16th to 19th centuries, hence 'christmas entertainment'. Very obscure, as is much of this crossword, which I did not enjoy at all
