These may be wrong but need the explained if correct:-

Black leaves in beer are mystifying - BAFFLE (B black and ALE but FF)? also mystifying is an adjective and BAFFLE isn't.

Coin made of copper essentially - TWOPENCE (Coin)

Clothes for touring everywhere except north - Is it FIT OUT or RIG OUT?

does the clue in the paper have a ? at the end. I suspect it does. I always take this to mean that the answer is literally the answer to the clue as a whole.

twopence coin is a coin essentially made of copper. crap, I agree.but there you go.
