Thanks Trevor. Film = mist is one to remember. I'm finding this 1 cryptic really difficult! I've still not got the "beef" one, nor these last three:
20d. At last hunter wears animal down (6) ___O_E.
23d. Floats either normally or upside down (5) __I_S.
24d First-child@s bond that's hard to break ($) _A_N.

Sorry that's not "1 cryptic". Should be I cryptic" as "i" = the cheap newspaper!
