Have finished this one, I hope, and just unsure of a nuance in one of the clues.
In 15 Down, for which the clue is "When
detective officer comes over, constable's
assistant wanders", I have "DIVERGES" as
the answer. Where does the constable's
assistant come into the reckoning?

Shakespeare. Verges was Constable Dogberry's assistant.
