Forgot I hadn't finished this, and left with a couple of odd looking answers- often a clue I have done something wrong.
43a. What's prior up to, cooking stew? (9) W-T-O-R-I
Also 49a. Miss lacking power to go uphill? Probably not! (3) R-I
I think the longer clue is something I do not know, but the short one will irritate me when I find out what it is.
As ever, any help gratefully accepted.

Many thanks. It never crossed my mind that 43d could have been the problem. I had dismissed the anagram thing unless it was stew for the w, and 43 sat a bit uncomfortably.
