Just had a look this morning. Should there be any special instructions? If not, what does something like (7,4 words) mean (see 25 Across).

I think I have the answer to 25 ac, and what I have are two words, 7 and 4. There doesn't seem to be a definition - what I have is from the clue. I've got some of it done, and I think it's just a fiendish (albeit great) Araucaria

This is to correct myself - I find there is somewhat of a definition. Sorry to confuse.

Should I be looking for any kind of theme here?

I have half a dozen or so done (and I'm pretty happy with them)but the rest seems impenetrable at the mo. I feel as if there's something just out of my grasp that I need to continue.

Any hints (not answers please) would be gratefully received.

AJT1 - by the sounds of it, I have the same 25ac as you - the definition may not be known to a lot of people (if I'm right)

Think I've found at least a mini theme now.

There is a mini-theme suggested by 1ac, which has no definition. 7dn also has no definition. I can see no significance of the word "words" in some of the brackets. Some of it is quite obtuse, even by Araucaria standards.

Thanks Peter - yes I've got the 1ac mini theme and two of its 'members'.

I think the word 'words' is just an admin error.

I think it might well be that 1a is some kind of theme. I have 7d, and that goes with it.

That's right AJT - but I think that theme just covers the three answers referred to - ie 7, 12 and 14.

Some of the answers are particularly esoteric - 5d. especially.

Any hints for 13 and 19 across (my last two). I have an answer for 13, but only because a) it fits and b) it could be teamed with the 'Eric' in the clue. But I don't see the rest. 19 across could be so many things.
