Need these explained..

Female writer's at a nursing centre for pilgrims - FATIMA ? (nothing else seems top fit)

I turf out old actor and mandarin, for example - FRUIT TREE (mandarin - I see FRUIT is an anag. of I turf but what does 'old actor' refer to?

OOps, FRANCIS seems to have had a slight trip as Les hasn't voted and is now in a difficult position (oops!again.)Wonder what will happen next?
