The answer must be either ENTAILS or ENTOILS, but I can't see how either fits. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Ah, that makes sense. It would mean my 21(a) is wrong.
21(a)(4) Blade sounds egocentric, we hear. I have put VAIN.
If EXTENDS is right, then I have V-N- for this.
