Niggling me, too. Closest I've got so far is Anglaise, as it is cooking prep term and broderie Anglaise is a lacy fabric. But it's not that.

I doubt this is the answer but for a disappointed woman the word that fits could be

SCUM (thesaurus gives one meaning of this as fabric)
