I was not very happy with either of these clues.
There was no indication that the ONE was French. UN ben d
The surface was bad in the second. It should have read DEEP. It said very low not lowest.

Un is a dialect form of one - see Chambers

Was I being picky with the second clue? I set my own occasionally for a local club mag and do like them to be fair.
