Could I ask for clarification on a couple, please?

tonyw@24 -- I love the anagram, but why 'Chef's new boy'?

paul @ 26 -- I assume it must work because aristo's voted for it, but I can't see why.

Thanks

Bullfrog; post 26;

slight stretch;

to whip someone at something is to beat them, hence whipper = winner
a thread can snap easily (told you it was a stretch...)

was toying with "declared winner by a photo-finish" but not as snappy(groan..)

Yes, it's a bit of a stretch (though whip certainly means defeat), but I think it works- and it's indeed snappy.

Hi Bullfrog,absolutely no reason why it should be chef's .I just thought it sounded better,and I also should have said ruined instead of upset.It was just that anybody's new boy is a whippersnapper.

Thanks for the explanations, guys. My vote goes to tonyw @24 for the quality of his anagram.
