"Fool about with" gives "lark", fair enough, and letters four and seven are L and K.

Skylark or titlark?

I can't see any way to be sure from this clue. Fool suggests tit but the down clue that crosses the second letter could be K.

I\'d say definitely skylark. It\'s an old naval term meaning to frolic or play about

Is it indeed? I'd say that clears it up. Many thanks.

I'm heading off on holiday tomorrow and I didn't want that going round in my head while I was away.
