Can anyone confirm that the answer to 46a is NERVES?
Clue is AUDACITY (six letters) N?R?ES
I could have accepted NERVE but I'm unsure about the plural term. It's probably just a crap clue (again) from the crossword compiler!

My thesaurus gives it in the singular.
To me nerves means jitters which is the opposite really!
You are probably right - a crap clue.

Thanks Paul and Rossim. I'll take a chance with NERVES although I hate being uncertain with an answer...espaecially with the friggin' cost of postage stamps these days!!!

I think you are pretty safe with that, especially with the letters you had. Good luck, hope you win.

Thanx Rossim,
I hope I win also!! I won 1st prize in this competition twenty years ago in 1992. Back then, there was a top prize of £100 and two(three?) £25 consolation prizes. About a month or so later the 'purse' was raised to a single prize of £500. I've sent in a grid every week since then but no luck.
