I think it's 'fleece'.

Do (con) = Fleece

Seek asylum = flee
Church = CE

I don't know what purpose the 'Roman' is serving though, so i could be wrong.

I was just coming in with the same suggestion.

FLEE for seek asylum and CE for Church, making FLEECE, which is to "do", although CE isusually for Chrch of England.
