Must be brer wolf right enough, but don't understand the wordplay pick=flower?

This was discussed in an earlier thread but I can't find it at the mo. I think it was Mamya who explained flower (as pick ) was in Chambers.

This is n odd position to be in, Ixion, but the pick of the bunch is the flower of the bunch = the very best
