I have a completed grid assuming that 'seths' is the correct answer for 14d. Have also identified 'x' and changed his initials to highlight B and C. Have also got A and E. But I can't fathom the cryptic indication for D starting from the symbol &. Any hints?

Hi Haggis, for 14 down I've got Sikhs (wealthy chAps) though I could well be wrong.
I don't suppose you could give me a clue to who 'x' is, as I'm completely flummoxed!
